Mike Herriott

From the first note I played on the new Wedge "Herriott L" lead mouthpiece, I haven't looked back on anything I've used in the past. I find that I get more core to my sound, greater consistency in tone throughout the conventional and extended range of the trumpet, and improved response. The new Herriott line (Lead, Classic, Pops, Picc, Flugel) combines to make up the right tool-box of equipment for the variety of work that I do.

The Mike Herriott Signature Line

Mike Herriott LineHerriott Lead

The Herriott Lead is available as a two part top and backbore, which are sold separately. The top is based on the original Wedge 10.5FC size. The stainless steel version of this is now Mikes favorite lead piece, although he also likes the one piece Delrin version with a brass tone modifier sleeve.

This mouthpiece has our new Double Oval Cup (DOC). The diameter of the rim and cup in the vertical dimension is 10/1000 of an inch larger than it is from side to side. This means that the oval shape of the Wedge rim is continued down to the base of the cup where it joins the throat. The DOC design, found only in Wedge mouthpieces, provides the added efficiency of a smaller mouthpiece with the big sound, clear attacks, and flexibility of the larger mouthpiece.

This top is designed to be used with a Wedge, Warburton, or similar backbore, which can be purchased separately. Mike plays this top with a heavy Wedge Medium large upper section with 25 throat and a regular length Large lower shank to produce an accentuated step bore backbore configuration.

Herriott Classic

The Herriott Classic is available as a two part top and backbore, which are sold separately. The top is an original Wedge 5CC size with a #25 throat. The 5CC is about the same depth as a Bach 3C, but is slightly smaller in diameter.

This top is designed to be used with a Wedge, Warburton, or similar backbore, which can be purchased separately. Mike plays this top with a heavy Wedge Medium large upper section with 25 throat and a regular length Large lower shank to produce an accentuated step bore backbore configuration.

Herriott Pops

The Herriott Pops is available as a two part top and backbore, which are sold separately. The top is an original Wedge 5DC size with a #25 throat. The 5DC is one step shallower and one step smaller than a Bach 3C. It is a great cross over piece between the 3C size and a dedicated lead mouthpiece, and is a great choice for pit work and other applications when a little extra brilliance, projection, and upper register support is needed without going to a lead sound. It has a very balanced lower register, for great versatility.

This top is designed to be used with a Wedge, Warburton, or similar backbore, which can be purchased separately. Mike uses a heavy Wedge Medium upper section with a 25 throat and a regular length ML lower shank.

Herriott Piccolo

The Herriott Piccolo is available as a two part top and backbore, which are sold separately. The top is an original Wedge 10.5FC size with a #25 throat.

This top is designed to be used with a Wedge, Warburton, or similar backbore, which can be purchased separately. Mike uses a heavy Wedge Medium upper section with a 25 throat and a regular length ML lower shank.

Herriott Flugel

The Herriott Flugel is the same as an original 3FLXC flugelhorn mouthpiece. This has about the same diameter as a Bach 3C rim and a deep V shaped cup with a #13 throat. It is used with a Bach, Standard (Yamaha), French, or special trumpet shank (sold separately)

The Herriott signature line is available in brass with silver or gold plating, and also in stainless steel for the maximum in fast response and projection. Mike uses gold or stainless, depending on the circumstances.
