Trumpet and Cornet

We are now offering custom mouthpiece services in addition to screw rim modifications. It is now possible to send us your favorite mouthpiece and have the cup and backbore digitally measured. We will use the data and a custom blank to machine a Wedge top that matches the size and shape of your top with a Wedge rim. The custom blank produces a better result than simply machining your existing mouthpiece. The rim can be a Standard, Cushion, Gabriel, or custom type.

It is sometimes possible to produce the same result by doing a custom M cup modification of an existing shallower Wedge mouthpiece based on the scanned data. The results are essentially identical except for the engraving "Custom" versus "M". The decision as to which technique to use is based on the dimensions of the scanned mouthpiece.

The backbore measurements can guide the choice of a well matched Wedge or Warburton backbore to get best possible fit with the playing characteristics of the new Wedge top.

The cost of custom work is $178 for scanning, designing, machining, and silver plating a new top. Custom mouthpieces based on unusual or uncommon sizes cannot be returned.

French Horn

French horn mouthpieces are now available as a custom order. Most French horn mouthpieces can be modified to accept a Wedge screw rim. In addition to the superior playing characteristics of the Wedge rim, French horn models are significantly more comfortable than standard rims, making large interval jumps much easier on the lips. Work has begun on a line of Wedge French horn mouthpieces based on our own blank.

Tuba and Trombone

Tuba and trombone mouthpieces can be scanned and the rim can be machined into a Wedge contour. Low brass modifications produce the same advantages as Wedge mouthpieces for high brass, especially greater core in the sound and improved flexibility. Modifications are $175 for trombone and $185 for tuba.
